40 levels of Mario Mayhem inspired by 35 years of Nintendo History! 

Complex Simplicity Plus is a series of 40 levels created in Super Mario Maker 2 by Devann. The series spans Mario history - from the original game all the way back in 1985 with those retro vibes for the nostalgia crowd, all the way to contemporary times for that modern Mario feeling.

Complex Simplicity began its life as a 24 level series on the Wii U - In fact, you can even play the original series to this day! The original idea was a challenge of the creator to himself: "Can I create a level in every theme, using every game style, and still come up with good, challenging traditional levels?"

The idea is for each level to be COMPLEX, to be challenging to complete and interesting to look at - but SIMPLE, no extreme gimmicks, no crazy wiring or fancy setups. It's all supposed to be pure, good old-fashioned Super Mario fun.

As stated above, Complex Simplicity was originally a 24 level series on Super Mario Maker for the Wii U. This series took five years to create from start to finish! Complex Simplicity Plus on Super Mario Maker 2 for the Nintendo Switch is an enhanced remake of the original Wii U series. Every single level from the original Complex Simplicity has been remade block-for-block in the new Super Mario Maker 2 engine. Of course, the levels are not all exactly the same! The levels have intentionally had alterations to them, whether it be extending levels to add more obstacles, or changing certain places in a level to make it less difficult, and even tightening up cakewalk areas to make them more of a challenge. Each world has also gained four more, brand new levels in the new themes that Super Mario Maker 2 has added. This is where the "plus" comes from. 



While the original series was a simple 4 world, six-level-each romp of 24 simple courses, Complex Simplicity Plus consists of four worlds, with ten courses each.


Each level is carefully crafted by hand, by one single person. Each level has a mountain of love and care placed into every single obstacle, room, bonus area, and secret. 



Each level contains 3 hidden pink coins, which take the place of the modern Mario's star coin. Unfortunately with the way that Super Mario Maker works, you can not maintain a stockpile of these coins, so they are perfectly useless in the grand scheme of things. However, as a special reward to those completionists who can't help themselves, each level contains a bonus door for collecting all three coins. The vast majority of the bonus doors contain simple coin rooms where you can collect 300 coins. A small amount of bonus doors allow you to skip certain areas, and a smaller amount let you access completely separate secret levels! 



The pink coins are scattered throughout each of the forty levels. Some are incredibly difficult to collect, but are "hidden" in plain sight. Others are hidden very well, but are super simple to pick up. Some are in the middle. If you can't find every single one of them, don't fret it. This is your official declaration by the creator of the series - DON'T BEAT YOURSELF UP OVER THESE. They will add nothing extra to the overall experience, and are simply a bonus for those willing to go the extra mile for them. 



There will be a 15 course "DLC" pack, which is currently still in development. It will contain 10 courses from the Super Mario 3D World theme, and 5 ultra-hard courses called world Star! Please stay tuned for more details on the upcoming expansion.


If you need help finding any of the pink coins, there will be a guide to them on this website eventually. But I must warn you - obviously this will contain spoilers for each of the levels' secrets. Only look at this if you are just absolutely DYING to collect all of the coins!
